I know Katie Morrow as an English teacher, technology wizard, and a volleyball coach. She is inspirational to me in many different ways. You might be thinking what is so inspirational about an English teacher, well you might want to read the following paragraphs and find out.
Katie Morrow has two sides her personal and professional side. Her personal side is amazing. As I sat down with Katie, she told me about growing up in the small town of O’Neill, Nebraska. She told me that her parents encouraged her to go to college and do something she likes and not to think about making a lot of money. Mrs. Morrow had the idea of being a teacher and the dream of teaching in exotic places around the world, but what really happened is that she stayed to teach in O’Neill. If you compare the small town of O’Neill to the exotic places Mrs. Morrow wanted to teach its not the same thing, but she says that now she realizes that O’Neill is a safe town for her kids to grow up. This is just a tiny bit of what her personal life.
Mrs. Morrow’s professional life is even more amazing because she gets to do what she loves teach and be around computers. She has been teaching at OHS for 14 years. O’Neill was one of the first schools to go 1on1 and Katie thought it would be a great experience giving 7-12 graders a laptop for new experiences. We all know that when there’s a new idea there are people that will laugh and think that it’s a dumb idea, but Mrs. Morrow thought we should “Dare to be the first to try.” I personally think that the laptop idea was a very good one, it has been a great experience this year with my MacBook. Katie told me how she sees things differently now then when she was a student. Now she realizes the difference between just finding the answer to a question referring to when she was a student, then knowing how to find the answer to a question referring to now that she is a teacher. Coach Morrow coaches volleyball for eighth grade girls at OHS, and as I talked to her she explained how sometimes she can tell where a student feels more comfortable either in the classroom or the court. “Sometimes you need to give people second changes,” is something Mrs. Morrow said and I thought it was a good inspirational saying. Mrs. Morrow was super excited when I asked her this question, “What do think of when you hear the word technology?” She said that technology was like another world with new and exciting places and things to explore and see. And that technology is very important now and for the future because it will lead us to discover new mysteries that we have not discovered. I was surprised with this response because if you ask me that question I would have said, iPods, computers, internet, etc. You might already know this but, Mrs. Morrow loves computer but not just because of it’s physical appearance, but what you do with the computer like creating new things. Mrs. Morrow told me that one of the most important things she has done in her life is work with Apple. She has gotten to travel to different countries around the world like Italy and Mexico. She said that her family, presentation skills, and her role at OHS is what she is most proud of.
Mrs. Morrow inspires me mostly because of her technology part, I think technology is very important and I really like it. I like learning new ways to use technology, and Mrs. Morrow has shown me many different ways to use the applications on my computer for my projects. Traveling is something else I like to do and working with Apple has given Mrs. Morrow many opportunities to travel around the world. Another thing about Mrs.Morrow is that she gives people second changes like in volleyball and in the classroom. These are some of the many things that inspire me about Mrs. Morrow.
With this project I think I got to know Mrs. Morrow better. I learned so much about her that I didn’t even know! I want to thank my English teachers for letting us do this project because if they hadn’t I would of never heard these words of advice “Dare to try,” “Dare to dream,” and “Dare to be the first to try.” I will certainly use these words to motivate myself to try something new. Katie Morrow you are a big inspiration to me.

If you could go to any country in the world where would you go? Would you go to a country with beaches, big cities, mountains, or ancient buildings? What if I told you that Spain has all of this and more, would you choose to go to Spain? Well I certainly would, but I want to talk to you about Spain’s Capital, Madrid. Madrid is located in the center of Spain. Let’s say you decided to go to Madrid, Spain, you would see a huge city with many palaces, plazas, parks, museums and many things to do. I think Madrid is a beautiful city with many sites that would interest you!
Madrid is the biggest of two urban cities the other city is Barcelona (which I would also recommend you to visit). The population of Madrid is 3 to 6 million people. The city has dry climate with hot summers and cool winters. There are few houses in Madrid, so most of the Madrileños(person from Madrid) live in apartments. The capital is a popular tourist destination, it has many fun and exciting places to go and activities to do. Madrid has many well known museums like Prado and Reina Sofia Art Center. In 1992 the city was honored by the European Union as the cultural capital of Europe.
There are so many places in Madrid to see, but there is one street you will want to see and that you will use to get to some of the many attractions in Madrid, that street is Gran Via Avenue. It is one of the most important streets in the city and a big tourist section where lots of amazing buildings stand and where lots of shopping can be done. Madrid is flooded with amazing and fascinating plazas and parks.Three plazas you might be interested in visiting are Plaza Mayor, Plaza España, and Plaza de la Independencia. In the center of Plaza Mayor is a bronze statue of King Philip III, also in the plaza celebrations are held like San Isidro. Plaza España is located in central Madrid and is bordered by two of the tallest skyscrapers Madrid Tower (Torre de Madrid) and España Building. Many places around the plaza are worth visiting like Debod Temple. The Alcalà Gate or Puerta de Alcalà is located in the Plaza de la Independencia and is one of Madrid’s symbols. The statues on top of the Alcalà Gate represent Prudence, Justice, Temperance, and Fortitude. These plazas are popular tourist destinations. Madrid still has some of its historical and beautiful palaces and buildings. One palace is the Royal Palace or the Palacio Real(in Spanish). This palace is amazing it has many gardens, courtyards, and plazas like the Plaza de Armas which looks out to the Almudena Cathedral. The enchanting palace also contains a Royal Armoury that contains many important pieces and it also holds many statues and monuments. The Royal Palace is considered by many to be one of the finest palaces in Europe. Retiro Park is a park to relax after a long day of visiting the attractive city. You can enjoy a picnic and a boat ride in the park. This is a beautiful city with beautiful places.
If you think theres lots of places to see, there is surely many things to do in Madrid. Have you ever heard “I am going to run with the bulls” well this refers to the bullfights and runs in Spain. In Madrid, you can go see bullfights in Plaza de Toros or Las Ventas which is the same place. As you may know that soccer or football ( in European countries) is a popular sport. You can go to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, which is home of the soccer team Real Madrid and is also the largest of three stadiums in the city. Fountain of Cibeles was adopted by the Football Club Real Madrid and their fans use the area for celebrations. You can have an unforgettable look around the stadium with no limits, how cool is that! Don’t forget about Madrid’s many museums like Prado which is one of the world’s most outstanding art museums. If you want to take a little break from all the tourist attractions you might want to stop at one of the many sidewalk cafés in the city.
Now that you’ve had a chance to read a little about the city of Madrid and it’s incredible scenery, would you choose to go to Spain? Madrid includes many ancient churches and lovely public squares. Many activities to keep you occupied and satisfied. Madrid is home to many beautiful plazas, parks, museums, and palaces. If you ever have the opportunity to go to Spain make sure to go to the capital, Barcelona and other cities that hold many reminders of old Spain. If your interested the country of Spain has several mountains that you can visit. Spain is full of friendly people with awesome accents, I thought you should know that Spanish people have amazing accents. The country has many examples of how life was back then, which makes it stand out. Spain is a lovely and attractive country with many astonishing buildings and places. Spain is certainly one of the best countries in Europe!
